Hanging out in Belfast Maine

Hanging out in Belfast Maine

My name is Deon Lyons and I live in Central Maine with my wife of thirty-four years. I am passionate about many things, and have no passion greater than that of family. I have been blessed with the love and support of my family, and don’t know what I would do without it.

I love music, movies, my family, the great outdoors, sports, gardening, multimedia, computers, and my grandson Jack.

My music tastes vary, but my roots go back to folk, rock and roll and the sounds of the late sixties and the seventies.

I have always loved to write, but never took the time to explore its potential, that is, until 2010 when I lost my vision. Since then, I have learned assistive technology which enabled me to recapture my love of computers. With an amazing array of modern assistive technology, and some amazing tutors, I was able to dive into my passion for writing, home keys first, and have built up a mess of stuff that I have written over the past few years. I owe so many so much, and will forever be grateful for the blessings afforded me.

I have met some wonderful folks in the blind community these past few years. Their constant friendship and inspiration continues to help me along these new roads in my life. I thank you all for your gift and will always be driven by your presence.

This blog site is filled with posts from my life and all its experiences. These essays dive into my world of blindness, and many other things. These entries run through my past, ahead into the future, and all over today. I have relied so much on my writings to help me work through many difficult situations, obstacles, hills and valleys that have lined the shores of the here and now. I love to write, and love the places it takes me, so write I do.

In 2014, I set sail on a quest for higher education, enrolling in a community college. I am taking part in a Liberal Arts program, with hopes of obtaining an associates degree, and working towards future employment in the field of journalism. Where this will take me is a mystery, but the ride will hopefully enlighten a goat on a journey. The task of education using assistive technology is a learning experience in and of itself, and I am very blessed and fortunate for being afforded this amazing opportunity.

Thanks for stopping by. Please feel free to leave a comment, and I hope you find something in here that interests you. This site is a big part of me, and I have become a huge part of it.

I hope this finds you all well.
